Studies and Travel
Hi!! I am Kayla Weber Nord and I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. I ventured down the road to Transylvania University and studied Education and Studio Art.
My junior year of college I embarked on a semester of studying and traveling in Florence, Italy. My artwork flourished there and I really began developing my painting and photography skills. My love of travel also became a huge part of my life, and I am constantly trying to go on another adventure any chance I get.
My husband and I love traveling as much as we can and we have visited 32 countries together. Last year we took our two sons to Florence, Italy and we look forward to taking them on many more adventures in the future!
A Little bit of Life
I was an elementary art teacher for 6 years, at the same time I was starting up my art career. Everything grew very quickly, and I quit teaching to pursue my passion of art and events! I have been a full-time artist now since 2018!
In college, I knew I wanted to be an artist, but didn’t think I would be able to support myself on solely that— fast forward several years and here I am! I am so thankful for this journey!
We built The Studio and are so excited to have a place for me to paint, sell my prints out of, host events, and a place to host workshops. We are open to the public and would love to have you stop by!
On the weekends you can find me out and about in Lexington with my husband, John, and our sons, Max and Oliver... unless we are traveling, of course!
Inspiration
I draw my inspiration from the world around me and I love showing the beauty of Kentucky and places from our travels. I paint many vibrant Kentucky scenes, horses, flowers, and abstracts in a mixture of realism and impressionism.
My favorite media is acrylic, but I do some work in watercolor depending on the subject matter. I am constantly drawn to bright and vibrant color palettes and I love to layer the acrylic paint to create texture. My paintings always show movement through abstracted brushstrokes, combined with quick marks made by sennelier oil pastels.
